After more than 10 years of marriage and just as many years as indecisiveness, Carl and I have come to the conclusion that it is time to have a baby. Well, sort of. I mean, it isn't really up to us. But, if all goes well, we hope to have a little one within the next 18 months. A bunch of different factors brought us to this conclusion, and none are insignificant. But for me, one of the most significant is the fact that right now (at age 38) I am in the best shape of my life. I've never been in terrible shape -- I've always exercised and maintained what most would consider a very healthy diet (I have since come to the conclusion that my diet wasn't all that healthy). In the past two years, however, things have changed drastically. First, I started running. Then, I started working out at a really cool place. And then I discovered the paleo diet. It started as an experiment. Then it became competition. Now, it is permanent. Because of this, I feel confident in my ability to cope with the physical demands of pregnancy -- something I very much doubted before. My plan is to follow paleo the entire time our child is in the womb. I am convinced that this is the best approach we can take when it comes to our future child's health and well-being.
