Baby clothes, messy house and my 32-week photo

Today, I decided to sort all my baby clothes by size. As suspected, my stash of newborn-sized clothes is seriously lacking. Time to shop for some onesies!

I have enough newborn clothes to get the baby through about two days, max.
In addition to shopping, we still have lots of work to do on the baby's room. Carl is almost finished with the painting, though, and we do have all of our big items (they are in boxes, but we have them!).

By the end of the weekend, this room will be almost ready for baby!

All of this baby prep has kept our home in disarray for weeks and weeks. Check out the mess ...

This is the living room, filled with boxes of baby furniture, gifts and supplies.

The upstairs hallway. We still don't know where we're going to store everything.
I love our new Ikea bookshelves, but they are a long way from looking neat and orderly.
And the mess even spills over into the guest room.

I'm not sure how I'm going to organize any of this stuff with my giant baby belly in the way.

Here I am on Tuesday right before my midwife appointment. 32 weeks and 2 days; 25 extra pounds.

  1. Don't fret about the newborn clothes too much. All I had was four sleepers and a onesie with pants. We figured that if he was on the small side, J could run out and grab a few more things after he was born.

As it turned out, right out of the womb he was too big for one of the sleepers (it was *supposed* to be his coming home from the hospital outfit and we couldn't get it on him!). He outgrew the two-piece outfit by a week old and the other three sleepers by two weeks old. So nothing newborn size lasted past two weeks.

You'll be doing a TON of laundry anyway (sorry, LOL...), so more likely than not, you'll be able to wash everything every day.

The 0-3 month size stuff will seem huge at first, but it will fit just fine within a few short weeks :)

  2. Excellent advice! Thank you! I did buy quite a few things today, but I'll leave the tags on because I might end up returning them if she never wears them. It is so confusing to me, because we just don't know what her size will be when she's born. I'm assuming the 5-8 pound newborn size will fit, but you just never know.

  3. Good thinking to keep the tags on! She'll lose a bit of weight in the first few days after birth, but then she'll gain about a half pound per week after that, so you can see how newborn stuff wouldn't fit for too long even if you have a 7-pounder.

At first, Oliver only wore one or two outfits in a day; though since my milk came in there has been a lot more spitting up, so he goes through three or four outfits per day. But since I am constantly doing laundry (towels, burp cloths, our bedding that keeps getting puked/peed on), we seem to just cycle through the same 6-8 outfits.

  4. yeah, ditto with the first poster! They grow so fast and you'd be surprised at how many outfits you never even get to put on them!
